The Valier boys basketball squad opens the 2011 portion of their schedule with a three-game home stand. They host Sunburst on Thursday and Augusta on Friday. Coached by Cory Collison, the local male cagers posted a record of two wins and four losses in December. They recorded wins over the Browning JVs and Chester-Joplin/Inverness. Losses were suffered at the hands of Rocky Boy, Dutton-Brady, Heart Butte and Power.
Dutton-Brady currently sits atop the District 10C standings with a 4-0 league mark. Heart Butte is 2-0 followed by C-J-I at 2-2 and Simms 1-1. Valier is 1-3 in conference games while Power is 0-1 and Sunburst is 0-4.
In their last two contests prior to Christmas the Panthers defeated C-J-I 53-46 and lost 64-56 to Power. Jaron Calf Robe was Valier’s leading scorer in the conference victory over C-J-I with 16 points. He was also the top point producer versus Power when he again tallied 16 points. Matt Christiaens scored 11 in both games. Jason Calf Robe had 13 points in the Power game and 12 against C-J-I.
Others seeing a bunch of varsity action this season for coach Collison have been Austin Wagner, Justin Sullivan and Rye O’Neal. Collison is being assisted this season by Jake CalfRobe.
