Valier freshman Hannah Monroe slips past a Belt defender on her way to the hoop while teammate Erica Ramsey tries to blaze a trail for her during opening round action at the Northern C Divisional Tournament in Great Falls.

The Valier Lady Panthers saw their season come to a close at the Northern “C” Divisional Tournament in Great Falls last week after going 0-2 with losses to Belt and Denton/Geyser/Stan-ford. The 10-C boys and girls were 0-12 at the Divisional Tournament, dashing hopes of a trip to the State Tournament for an area school.

Valier opened with the Belt Huskies and trailed 22-2 after the first quarter. The Huskies put up 21 points in the second quarter and led 43-6 at the half. Valier was outscored 23-9 in the second half and dropped the game 66-15.

Erica Ramsey led the offense with seven points followed by Emma Valdez and Madison Weikum with three apiece. Loni Orcutt rounded out the scoring with two.

The loss put the Lady Panthers in a loser out contest against DGS and the local cagers trailed 9-5 after the opening stanza. DGS outscored the Lady Panthers 18-12 in the second quarter and led 27-17 at the half.

Valier put up 11 points in the third quarter and cut the DGS lead to 33-28 going into the fourth. The Lady Panthers scored 15 points in the fourth quarter but it wasn’t enough to overtake DGS as they dropped the game 47-43.

Ramsey led the offense with 13 points followed by Hannah Monroe with ten. Orcutt and Valdez scored six points each, Amari CalfRobe scored five and Kylie Christiaens rounded out the scoring with three.

The future is bright for the Lady Panthers as they had only two upperclassmen this year and will return their entire roster next season.
