Brett Stoltz, didn’t score against the Refiners but he hit double figures in the team’s loss to CJI in Chester last Saturday.

The Valier Panthers went 0-2 in the opening weekend of 2020, dropping games to Sunburst and CJI. The Panthers will look to get on track this weekend as they hit the road to take on Augusta and Simms. 

Friday against Sunburst the Refiners took a 12-5 lead after the opening stanza. The local cagers scored eight points in the second quarter but Sunburst extended their lead to 26-13 at the half. The Panthers outscored Sunburst 8-6 in the third quarter and trailed 32-21 going into the fourth. The Panthers managed just six points in the final eight minutes while Sunburst put up 13 to take a 45-27 victory. 

Brody Connelly scored ten points to lead the offense followed by Luke Kuka with nine. Rylee Gabbard chipped in four points while Chance Peterson and Will Boumans rounded out the scoring with two points each. 

Saturday the Panthers were in Chester and the CJI Hawks took a 20-12 lead after the first quarter. The Hawks extended their lead in the second quarter as they scored 18 points and led 38-22 at the break. Valier was outscored 18-8 in the third quarter and trailed 56-30 going into the fourth quarter. The Panthers scored 14 points in the final stanza and dropped the game 72-45. 

Connelly led all scorers with 25 points followed by Brett Stoltz with ten. Peterson scored six points in the loss and Boumans rounded out the scoring with four. 

The Panthers will be in Augusta Friday for a 7:30 p.m. tip off and Simms on Saturday with the game slated to begin at 5:30 p.m.
