Heidi Moretti could not believe her good fortune when a publisher of specialized cookbooks and health titles, approached her about publishing her first book. Heidi had been blogging about health for three years. Her blog attracted the interest of data-driven publisher Rockridge Press.
Heidi DeBoo Moretti grew up in Valier. She attended Montana State University and then earned a Masters in Nutritional Sciences from the University of Washington (1999.) Heidi currently lives and works in Missoula as a clinical dietitian and in her words, “dabbles in nutrition research.” She applies her research in her clinical practice.
“Gut health is so important. If it isn’t right, nothing goes right,” commented Moretti. “This is a true thing in my own life.”
“Dabbling” is paying off. Heidi’s commitment to nutrition and gut health, along with the information she has been sharing on her blog, The Healthy RD, landed her first book deal. She wasn’t actively seeking a publishing opportunity, although Heidi loves to write and had entertained the idea of creating a book - someday. When Rockridge Press reached out, the exciting and challenging journey began.
One of those challenges came in the form of a word limit. The author had created a lot of content, some of which had to be condensed to fit the publisher’s book parameters. It can be difficult to let go of information you have labored to create, but when the publisher says, “this much,” you make it work. The writing turnaround was quick from initial contact in late Spring 2020 to mid-September. It was a busy few months!
The Whole-Body Guide to Gut Health: Heal Your Gut Through Diet, Exercise, and Stress Reduction launched March 2, 2021. It is currently available for pre-order through Amazon.
When asked about book signings and speaking engagements, Moretti explained that the publisher has a marketing schedule and personal appearances have not yet been arranged. However, she may be spotted in and around Valier when opportunities arise to visit family.
