The Pondera County Commissioners, along with the Pondera Elections Department, is considering consolidating the Dupuyer polling place with the Valier polling place. There will be a public meeting on Thursday, May 30 at 6:30 pm at the Dupuyer Community Hall to discuss the consolidation.
The reasons for the considered consolidation include:
•The rising cost of elections per polling place.
•The need to purchase new ADA-compliant voting equipment prior to the 2020 elections and the increasing cost of maintaining and formatting equipment for each election.
•Difficulties in finding a polling place location with sufficient telephone access for contact with the Elections Department.
•The high number of absentee voters.
According to Clerk and Recorder and Election Administrator Kody Farkell, consolidation of the polling places would NOT mean every voter would be required to travel to Valier to vote. Absentee voting is available to any voter for any election.
In addition, the Valier Civic Center polling place is open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., extending the voting hours available to voters.
The Commissioners will vote on the consolidation at their regularly scheduled meeting on Wednesday, June 12 at 10 a.m.
