The Valier Area Development Corporation has been working overtime to promote the Valier area with several upcoming events. Look what the VADC has planned for December and January and don’t forget to start training for the Triple P Triathlon in June 2020. Watch for training tips from VADC’s Carol Green in future issues!
Valier Christmas Stroll
The annual Valier Christmas Stroll will be held tonight, Thursday, Dec. 5, from 5-8 p.m. in the Valier High School multipurpose room. There will be over 20 vendors on hand as well as VHS’s FCCLA serving up chili, Santa and his elves, hayrides, bake and candy sales, wreath and tree sales and the traditional fire pit and bonfire, not to mention the Czechoslovakian raffle.
In an effort to encourage local and area residents to shop in Valier, the VADC has developed the VADC Bucks program.
Here’s how it works. VADC Bucks are simply gift cards that can be redeemed at any VADC member business–which is virtually every Valier business! The list of participating businesses includes: DeBoo Ranch Adventures, One Stop Cenex, Ben Taylor, Inc., Town of Valier, Curry’s Market, Christiaens Meats, Froggie’s Bar and Grill, Jessie’s Salon, Charlene’s Cut N Style, DeVoe’s Builders Services, Panther Café, Pony Expressions, Lake Frances Inn, The Valierian, Erika Nefzer, Sage Massage.
VADC Bucks can be purchased from a VADC member or from Curry’s Market in Valier. The “bucks” come in $10 increments and make great stocking stuffers, teacher gifts, tips for your favorite hair stylist, masseuse, babysitter, etc., as well as those hard to buy for folks on our Christmas list.
There is no expiration date on them so stock up now to give them as birthday and graduation gifts, Mother’s or Father’s Day gifts, or to give as a gift when you want to buy a gift locally, but are not sure what to buy for that special someone!
Businesses can redeem the VADC Bucks for cash by returning them to the VADC for reimbursement.
For more information, contact Ruth Powers or check out the VADC booth at the Christmas Stroll.
Winter Light Festival
The VADC is excited for Saturday, Dec. 7, when the Winter Light Festival kicks off at 6:30 p.m.! Don’t forget to complete an official entry from notifying the VADC of your desire to participate. Forms are available at the Valier Public Library and Curry’s Market.
The evening will feature music, coffee and hot chocolate and pastries.
A traveling trophy and cash award will be given to the business or resident showcasing the best display of Holiday Spirit and/or Vintage Valier.
Displays must be completed and “turned on” on or before Dec. 7 at 6:30 p.m. and should be lighted each evening through Jan. 31, 2020, to draw post-holiday visitors to Valier.
VADC will assemble a judging committee from the community and prizes will be awarded on Dec. 15. The trophy will remain at the winners’ place of business/residence until Dec. 1 of the following year.
VADC will showcase the light displays weekly in The Valierian, on Facebook, Instagram and on the radio.
The VADC encourages participation in this competition as it provides an opportunity to draw visitors to Valier during the off-season.
This year’s annual fishing derby on Lake France is slated for Jan. 18, 2020, with a start time of 8 a.m. Raffle tickets for the event are now on sale from VADC members. Organizers are giving vendors a chance to participate. For more information, call (406) 279-3561.
Triple P Triathlon
The Lake Frances Triple P (Paddle, Peddle, Pace) is a new kayak triathlon, which will take place in Valier on June 13, 2020. The “Triple P” event includes kayaking (1.5 miles), biking (12 miles), and running (3 miles) legs.
Organizers are planning an evening kick-off and race packet pick-up with bike and kayak gear check on Friday evening, June 12. The triathlon will start at 6 a.m. (late registration) and conclude at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 13.
The purpose of this event is to attract outdoor loving tourists to our versatile and scenic recreational area. The Lake Frances Triple P will showcase the lake and views of the Rocky Mountain Front.
The VADC is planning for 100-150 competitors and their families. Organizers expect 30 to 50 percent non-resident attendance from Alberta, Idaho, Washington and Wyoming.
