Mark your calendars and start saving some dates!
Each autumn the Valier Area Development Corporation (VADC) plans events and projects for the upcoming year. Many of the events are traditional, such as Homesteader Days and the annual Christmas Stroll. The VADC is hopeful that with a little creativity, all events will be able to go forward despite the challenges that the COVID-19 pandemic continues to present.
The 2nd annual Valier Winter Light Festival and Christmas Stroll is scheduled for Dec. 3, from 6:30-8 p.m. The light festival is a kickoff event for the Winter Light Display Competition for businesses and residential properties. A traveling trophy and cash award will be given to the business or resident showcasing the best display of Holiday Spirit and/or Vintage Valier.
The Christmas Stroll will happen simultaneously if pandemic conditions permit. The venue will be announced in the near future. Contact Linda Kuka at 279-3347 to secure your vendor spot.
Valier’s annual Ice Fishing Derby will be held on Jan. 16, 2021. The derby will be held at Lake Frances, near Valier. Entry fee is $20 per participant with 100% payout going to the top three biggest Perch and Pike. Traditionally, participants meet afterwards at the Firemen’s Pavilion for awards and the raffle drawing. Social distancing requirements will be observed, and the after-derby activities will be adjusted if necessary.
The 2nd annual Lake Frances Triple P Triathlon is set for June 12, 2021. Participants complete three legs of the course by kayaking, biking, and running a total of 17.5 miles. The 2020 inaugural event was successful with nearly 70 participants even during a pandemic. Early registration is now open.

The fourth weekend of June is reserved for Homesteader Days 2021 and the rescheduled All School Reunion. The 2020 reunion was postponed due to social distancing concerns. Homesteader Days was scaled way back for the same reasons. The “Cruise the Drag” event proved a successful alternative to the traditional parade and Homesteader Hustle Fun Run carried on as well. Organizers are hopeful these events can proceed on June 25-27, 2021.
Dates for the annual Community Cleanup and the Community Food and Fun Night will be announced later.
Additional projects include improvements at the campground, reinstatement of a Welcome Wagon type service for new residents in the community, the Valier Bucks program, and general promotion and beautification of Valier and surrounding area.
