The Valier Lady Panthers went 1-1 last weekend splitting games with Power and Heart Butte. The local squad now stands at 3-1 on the season after a 2-0 opening weekend was misreported as a split.

The Lady Panthers led 13-12 after the opening stanza against Heart Butte on Friday and extended that lead to 29-22 at the half. Heart Butte outscored the Lady Panthers 14-11 in the third to cut the lead to 36-40 going into the fourth and when the buzzer sounded to end regulation the teams were knotted at 49-49. The Warriors outscored Valier 8-3 in the extra minutes and took the 57-52 victory.

Emma Valdez scored 19 points to lead the offense followed by Loni Orcutt with 14. Hylee Layne chipped in seven points, Lily Calf Robe scored five, Kinley Kovatch scored four and Katelyn Lamere rounded out the scoring with three points.

Saturday the Lady Panthers hosted Power and led 11-7 after the first quarter. The local squad was outscored 14-12 in the second but led 23-21 at the half. Valier put the clamps on defensively in the second half, allowing just six points in the final 16 minutes and took the 38-27 conference victory.

Valdez scored 14 points to lead a trio of Panthers in double digits. Layne and Orcutt each scored ten points in the win and Kovatch rounded out the scoring with four points.

The Lady Panthers closed out year 2021 with a road game against CJI on Tuesday. Results will be available in next week’s issue.
