Denae Peterson and Celeste Kovatch recognized a need and decided to do something about it. When they learned two ladies in the Valier community, Emily Leonard and Angie Kirkbride, were both battling breast cancer, they thought of a way to help. They organized a fun run benefit to offset the many costs associated with treatment. Denae is a breast cancer survivor and understands some of the challenges these women are facing.

“I am doing it because I know what they are going through,” Denae shared.

Denae was diagnosed in 2016. She is candid about what she went through. “I had three surgeries in seven months. Mastectomy, rebuild and a full hysterectomy. I lucked out, I didn’t have to do Chemo or radiation.” She continued, “Valier did so much for me and my family when I was in my fight, I want to be able to give the same back to these two ladies!”

Together We Fight Cancer Fun Run and Walk will be held on Sunday, Nov. 7, at 1:30 p.m. at the Firemen’s Pavilion by Lake Frances.
