Shelby’s Brielle Aklestad goes into her spin before letting the discus fly Saturday at the Choteau Invitational.

The Shelby Coyotes had a busy week on the track as they competed in Havre and Choteau. 

Wyatt Brusven led the boys squad in Havre at the Cal Wearley Memorial with a pair of first place finishes. Brusven cleared 11-0 in the pole vault to take top honors and also set a personal record in the triple jump with a leap of 40-05.0 to top the field. Brusven also competed in the 100 (12.09) and shot put (34-03) but did not place. Rhett Reynolds cleared 5-08 to place fourth in the high jump while Logan Leck rounded out the individual placers for Shelby with a sixth place finish in the 400 with a time of 56.54.

The Coyotes 4x100 relay team of Brusven, Taylor Parsons, Eduardo Rojo Vizuete and Brock Stores placed fifth with a time of 48.97. 

Non-placing marks in Havre were: Tanner Parsons 400-58.67, shot put-34-08; Damon Irvin 400-1:01.91, 800-2:20.51; Leck 800-2:16.52.

Brook Luly led the girls’ team with a third place finish in the long jump with a leap of 14-10.5 while Brielle Aklestad placed fifth in the javelin with a season’s best toss of 101-07. 

Non-placing marks for the girls included: Allyson Bleecker 100-13.97; 400-1:16.08; Luly 400-1:10.73, 800-2:49.0; Aklestad shot put-24-08, discus 67-09.

Saturday the Coyotes traveled to Choteau for the Acantha Invitational and the boys were led by a trio of freshmen. 

Shaun Salveson topped the field in the long sprint with a time of 54.46, a personal best. Salveson also placed sixth in the 200 with a personal record of 25.52 and ran a leg on the Coyotes’ sixth place 4x400 relay team along with Irvin, Reynolds and Tanner Parsons, finishing in 3:59.43. 

Fellow freshman Reynolds cleared 5-10 in the high jump to place third while Cameron Brusven, also a freshman placed sixth in the triple jump with a personal best of 39-06.5. 

Non-placing marks for the boys included: Brock Stores 100-12.53, 200-26.97, javelin-76-04; Brenden Hagood 100-13.66, long jump-13-01.75, triple jump-31-10.75; Jerry Vanmaanen 100-17.28, 200-41.41, long jump-9-06; Mark Clark 100-18.04, shot put-36-0.5, discus-78-06, javelin-96-09; Tanner Parsons 200-25.6, shot put-29-07.5; Reynolds 200-27.17; Kolby Lohr 200-28.35, discus-59-07; Kolten Henke 400-1:01.86; Irvin 1600-5:16.66, javelin 94-05, triple jump-35-04; Garett Hansen shot put-27-0.5, discus 62-0; C. Brusven discus-96-02, javelin-115-04; Brenden Hagood long jump-13-01.75, triple jump-31-10.75. 

Bleecker led the Coyote girls with a pair of third place finishes in the 200 (28.64) and 400 (1:09.25). Luly also picked up a third place finish as she finished the 1600 in 6:21.81 and Aklestad earned third place in the javelin with a throw of 97-09. Brogan McAllister rounded out the Coyote placements with a sixth place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 28-03.25. 

Non-placing marks for the girls team included: Bleecker 100-14.16; Makayla Haight 1600-7:50.0, long jump-12-11.25; Aklestad shot put-25-01.5, discus-59-06; McAllister discus-61-02; Luly high jump-4-02. 

The Coyotes competed at the Kalispell Time Trial Invite on Tuesday this week and will spend the Saturday in Havre for the Lions Invitational.
