The Shelby senior/junior high school cross country team participated in the Flathead Invitational Cross Country Meet at Rebecca Farm outside of Kalispell. The weather was on the warm side.
Running in the varsity girls race was Allyson Bleecker, who finished the course in 102nd place with a time of 30:21. There were 110 runners in the race. Jahna Welker and Randilee Myo did not have the required 10 practices in and did not run.
Leading the Coyotes in the varsity boys race was Teagan Tustian, with a time of 21:25, placing 99th. Lucas Fretheim ran the 3.1 miles in 21:35, placing 104th. Crossing the finish line in 124th place with a time of 25:15 was Kolten Henke. Michael Sanchez finished the race in 28:05, placing 128th. Brenden Hagood crossed the finish line in 35:19 placing 129th. There were a total of 130 runners in the race.
In the boys middle school race, Ivan Wickum ran the 2500 meters in 10:09, placing 29th. Isaac Doty started the race, but did not finish. There were a total of 161 runners in the race.
Kudos goes to Kolten Henke for improving his time from last week.
The team will continue to run hard in practice, especially the last mile. The goal is still to stay healthy and have fun.
By the time you read this article the team will have started off Homecoming week by hosting the Shelby Invitational Cross Country Meet on this past Monday, Sept. 16. On Friday, Sept. 20, the team is scheduled to run in the Great Falls Invitational Cross Country Meet at the Eagle Falls Golf Course. The races begin at 2:45 p.m. with the Class B Girls at 4 p.m. and the Class B Boys at 4:45 p.m.
