The Shelby Coyotes boys basketball team picked up two conference wins over the weekend. The Coyotes handed Choteau their first loss on the season, 71-47, on Friday and then defeated Great Falls Central, 66-51, on Saturday.

Sophomore Rhett Reynolds dominated play against Choteau with 41 points and 24 rebounds to lead the Coyotes in whipping the Bulldogs.

Shelby started the game on a 10-0 run. The first quarter ended 15-10. The second quarter was more evenly played and the Coyotes took a 33-29 lead to the locker room. Shelby turned up the heat on defense in the third quarter, and Reynolds took over inside to give the Coyotes a 15-point lead heading into the final eight minutes. Shelby extended the lead by 10 to finish the game, 71-47.

Scoring for Shelby were Reynolds with 41, Tanner Parsons 11, Logan Leck eight, Taylor Parsons seven, Kolby Lohr, two, and Tanner Watson and Garett Hansen one.

“I was proud we took care of the ball, and our defensive assignments,” said coach Tom Reynolds. “Defensively we limited their three top scorers to nine total points. Leck, our point guard, had zero turnovers for the game. This was a good team win.”

Saturday the Coyotes hosted Great Falls Central. “We won a hard-fought game. We were able to work on some things and I was pleased the boys earned another conference win,” recapped Reynolds.

Shelby jumped to an early 17-10 first quarter advantage, and extended the lead by the half to 35-21.

Rhett Reynolds again did damage down low, and gave GFC fits. The Coyotes offense kept scoring in the third quarter and extended their lead by four more points. Shelby rolled to the 66-51 win in the final stanza.

Reynolds and Leck led the scoring for the Coyotes with 24 and 21, respectively. Also scoring for the Coyotes were Watson with 11, Tanner Tustian with five, Tanner Parsons with three, and Trenton Emerson with two.

Shelby will travel this week, playing Friday in Cut Bank. Tip-off is at 7:30 p.m. Saturday they will travel to Malta for a 4 p.m. game.
