The Shelby Lady Coyotes earned their fourth straight runner-up trophy at the Class B State Golf Meet last week in Missoula. Senior Skyler Martin capped off an impressive athletic career with a second place finish and teammates Kendall Anderson and Reese Whitted earned All-State honors as well as both placed in the top 15.
Martin fired a 77 in her opening round of the two-day tournament to put her three strokes behind Katie Fagg of Missoula Loyola. Anderson was tied for sixth place after her opening round of 87 and Whitted shot a 94 and was in a three-way tie for tenth. Kelsyn Lohr and Maddison Underdal opened the tournament with a 115 and 117, respectively and the Lady Coyotes trailed Missoula Loyola by a single stroke in the team race 372-373.
Martin shot an 84 on the second day of the tournament but was unable to catch Fagg, who shot an 82, in the individual standings and claimed second place with a two-day total of 161. Martin closed out her Coyote golf career with four All-State finishes, four individual medals and four State Tournament trophies.
Anderson and Whitted both shot a 99 on the second day of the tournament and the junior duo earned All-State Honors. Anderson finished in a tie for 10th place with a 186 and Whitted placed 14th with a 193.
Underdal shot a 113 and Lohr shot a 115 as both finished the tournament with a 230.
Shelby finished the tournament with a 768 to earn second place team honors behind Loyola’s 728. Bigfork earned the third place trophy with an 826.
The Coyote boys finished ninth in the team standings and were led by Wyatt Brusven’s 179. Sean Rogers followed with a 190, Kyler Cassell shot a 200, Lucas Fretheim recorded a 202 and Cameron Brusven rounded out the Coyote scores with a 228.
