The Shelby Coyotes girls basketball team won two conference games before Christmas, defeating Conrad 65-45 and Rocky Boy, 55-47.
Dec. 13 the Coyotes traveled to Conrad and started the game off in style, doubling the points of Conrad 16-8. Shelby took a 31-18 lead into the half. The second half was a little closer with Shelby outscoring Conrad 16-12 in the third and 18-15 in the fourth.
Scoring for the Coyotes were Maddison Underdal with a game high 22 points, Brogan McAllister had 11, Bailey Johnson and Brook Luly each had 9, Kendall Anderson dropped in 7, and Brielle Aklestad added 6.
Dec. 21 the Coyotes hosted Rocky Boy. The Morning Stars took an early advantage leading 12-10 at the end of the first quarter, and 24-23 at the half. Shelby came out in the third and locked down Rocky Boy holding them to seven points, and scoring 14. Shelby also outscored the Stars in the fourth 18 to 16 to claim the win, 55-47.
Scoring for the Coyotes were Underdal with 17, Luly with 13, Aklestad with 8, McAllister and Johnson with 6, and Anderson had 5.
Coach Mac McDermott said, “The coaches are pleased with the hustle and effort the girls give every day. We are happy with the improvement from the free throw line. Two wins is a good start to the conference season.”
Shelby will play again Jan. 3, at 6 p.m. in Fairfield and will host Browning Jan. 4 at 4 p.m.
