The Sunburst girls basketball team traveled to Centerville on Thursday, Jan 9, and fell to defeat 64-21 but bounced back to win 55-49 against Heart Butte on Friday.
The Refiners had a hard time scoring in their non-conference game to the Miners. “Although we had a really good night on the boards, we let them score too much. They had a very balanced scoring effort, with nine people scoring. We struggled to find the hoop, and while we had seven people score, only one was above five points,” said coach Alex Aschim said,
Scoring for Sunburst were Bailey Postma six, Jeena Alborano and Claire Bucklin with four, Brooke Holland three, Mackinzie Wilson two, and Annika Furr and Megan Hout one each.
Friday the Refiners won in overtime against the Heart Butte Warriors, 55-49.
“Friday, we had a much better night as far as scoring goes. We were a lot more aggressive. I was really proud of how hard the girls came back after a physical game and late night in Centerville. They brought a ton of energy and fought through some ups and downs in the game,” said Aschim.
Scoring for the Refiners were Alborano 19, Bucklin 11, Holland seven, Wilson, Furr, and Laura Meyer five each and Postma three.
Thursday the Refiners travel to Simms and Friday they host Power. Both games have 7:30 p.m. starts.
