Sunburst’s Jaden Koon runs into the endzone and into the sunset and teammate Grady Kerfoot follows the play.

The Sunburst Refiners kept their season alive defeating the Heart Butte Warriors 54-7 on Oct. 17.

Sunburst got off to a quick start against Heart Butte. Stanley Jarvis scored from 25 yards out on the third play of the first series and they never looked back.

The Warriors were big up front and they really made the Refiner defense work to get to the ball.

Coach Jason Hanson said, “Jaden Koon and Cade Hanson did a great job of making a lot of open field tackles and forcing several turnovers.”  Going into halftime, Sunburst held a 36-0 advantage.

Hanson commented, “The second half was a great opportunity to have all our younger kids get some time on the field.  We just didn’t get a lot of opportunity to play many JV games this year and these younger kids have been working hard in practice as well.  They stepped up and had a couple of scoring drives to help round out the game.”

Hanson added, “Overall, the kids played well on both sides of the ball.”

Sunburst will host the Tri-Cities of Hobson, Moore and Judith Gap on Friday. Game time is tentatively scheduled for 6 p.m.  This will be the final game of the Refiners’ regular season.
