Shelby freshman Rhett Reynolds easily sails over the high jump bar at 5’8” Saturday at the Cut Bank Invitational. Reynolds later cleared 6’0” to win the event.

The Shelby High School track and field season got underway last weekend at the Cut Bank Booster Club Invitational and both the boys and girls squads turned in impressive performances. The boys placed third out of 13 teams while the girls placed fourth in their opening meet. 

The boys team was led by first place efforts from Logan Leck and Rhett Reynolds. Leck won the 400 with a time of 56.31 and also placed second in the 800 with a time of 2:22.29. Reynolds cleared 6-0 in the high jump in his first high school meet to win the event and also competed in the 400, just missing out on placing with a seventh place finish at 1:00.86.

Wyatt Brusven set a personal record in the pole vault, clearing 12-0 to place second and also teamed up with Leck, Tanner Parsons and Kolten Henke to place fourth in the 4x400 relay. Brusven also ran a leg on the Coyote’s sixth place 4x100 relay with Brock Stores, Parsons and Eduardo Rojo Vizuete. 

Tanner Tustian placed third in the 1600 with a time of 5:18.91 while Shaun Salveson placed third in the 800 with a time of 2:24.29. Cameron Brusven rounded out the Coyote placers with a 37-0.5 leap in the triple jump to place fifth. 

Allyson Bleecker and Brook Luly each won an individual event to lead the girls team in Cut Bank. Bleecker finished the 200 in 28.65 to claim top honors while Luly’s time of 2:40.23 in the 800 put her atop the podium. Bleecker also placed sixth in the 100 with a time of 14.17 while Luly finished second in the long jump with a leap of 14-11.75. The duo also teamed up with Brielle Aklestad and Brogan McAllister to place second in the 4x400 relay. 

Aklestad placed second in the javelin with a toss of 92-0 and her 26-03 effort in the shot put was good enough for fifth place. McAllister placed third in the triple jump with a distance of 28-05.5. Makayla Haight rounded out the individual placements with a second place finish in the 3200 with a time of 16:34.64. 

The Coyotes are back in action Wednesday at the Cal Wearley Memorial meet in Havre and then will travel to Choteau for the Acantha Invitational on Saturday.
