Shelby High School will be well represented at the State B Track and Field Meet in Kalispell this weekend. Senior Wyatt Brusven led the way for the Coyotes as he earned top honors in the 110 hurdles and also placed in three other individual events.
Brusven set a personal record in the hurdles with a 15.93 to earn the top spot on the podium. He also placed second in both the triple jump (39-11.5) and long jump (19-08.5) and his personal best of 12-06 in the pole vault earned him a third place finish. Brusven also teamed up with Rhett Reynolds, Logan Leck and Shaun Salveson in the 4x400 to place third and ran the 4x100 with Tanner Parsons, Eduardo Rojo Vizuete and Salveson to place sixth with a time of 48.04.
Reynolds cleared 6-0 in the high jump to place second while Taylor Parsons finished fourth in the event with a height of 5-08. Salveson advanced to State in both the 400 (54.15) and 800 (2:07.36), placing fourth in both events.
Brook Luly led the girls’ squad with a second place finish in the long jump with a leap of 14-11. The junior also placed third in both the triple jump (30-03) and 800 (2:33.03) and placed fourth in the 1600 (5:57.52). Luly also ran a leg on the Coyotes’ 4x400 relay along with Allyson Bleecker, Brogan McAllister and Brielle Aklestad that advanced to State with a fifth place finish.
Bleecker placed fourth in the 100 (13.37), sixth in the 200 (28.3) and just missed out on qualifying for State in the 400 as she finished seventh. Aklestad rounded out the individual placements with a fifth place toss in the javelin of 103-11.
Non-placing marks at the Divisional Meet for the Coyotes were: Leck 400-56.39, 800-2:15.52; Damon Irvin 800-2:22.24, 1600-5:24.74; Tanner Tustian 1600-5:07.7, pole vault-9-06; Tanner Watson 3200-11:30.6; Mark Clark shot put-36-04.5, discus-106-0; Cameron Brusven javelin-114-04, triple jump-35-06.5; Makayla Haight 1600-6:50.65, 3200-14:52; Aklestad shot put-27-06, discus-69-05; McAllister triple jump-27-05.
