Senior Cody Smith ran a 5:13 to place second in the 1600 Saturday at the Cut Bank Booster Invitational.

The Sunburst Refiners traveled to Cut Bank last weekend for their first track and field meet of the year. The boys had three athletes place in Cut Bank while the girls had just one athlete compete in the season opener. 

Cody Smith placed second in the 1600 with a time of 5:13.17 to lead the boys team. Renny Turner placed fifth in the shot put with a personal best toss of 34-11. Jaden Koon placed sixth in both the 1600 (5:20.6) and the discus (100-09) to round out the Refiner placers. 

McKayla Jean-Baptiste was the lone competitor on the girls side. She finished the 100 in 15.44 but did not place. 

Non-placing marks for the boys included: Dylan Postma shot put-31-10, Renny Turner discus-94-02.5; Morgan Manthey discus-65-07, shot put 26-04. 

The Refiners are slated to compete in Choteau this Saturday at the Acantha Invitational.
