Sunburst’s Brooke Holland drives the ball up the floor during a recent game in Valier.

The Sunburst Lady Refiners traveled to Heart Butte on Thursday and fell short against the Lady Warriors, 48-23. They hosted Centerville in nonconference action on Friday, and lost 60-32.

“Thursday night we came out pretty flat-footed and were just on our heels the whole time,” said head coach Alex Aschim. “We started out down 20-5 after one and just never could catch back up.”

Sunburst had a better offensive quarter in the second, scoring 11, but they gave up 12 points and went on to lose, 48-23.

“I was disappointed in our efforts Thursday, because I know we could have given so much more. I’m hoping we learned a few things in that sense so that we are ready to go come tournaments,” said Aschim.

Scoring for the Refiners were Brooke Holland seven, Claire Bucklin five, Jeena Alborano and Bailey Postma four each, Mickaela Vento two, and Laura Meyer one.

Friday the Refiners played Centerville and Aschim thought the team played a really good game. “We started out slow again and were down 15-3 after one quarter, but compared to last time we played them, we played much better.”

Sunburst found themselves trailing 27-11 at the half, but cut Centerville’s lead to nine at one point in the third quarter, but fell behind in the fourth, 60-32.

Scoring for the Refiners were Mackenzie Wilson six, Holland, Alborano, and Bucklin five, Megan Hout three, and Vento two.

Sunburst will host Simms on Thursday, Feb. 13, for their last home game at 6 p.m. They will travel to Power on Friday for another 6 p.m. game to close out the regular season.
