The NTCHS Refiners competed at the District 10-C track meet last weekend in Great Falls and the boys team brought home a third place trophy. Power took the top spot with 179 points followed by Great Falls Central with 122. The Refiners’ 72 points were 21 points ahead of fourth placed Augusta. The Refiners qualified five boys and one girl for this Thursday’s Northern C Divisional Meet in Great Falls at Memorial Stadium. 

Michael Buckley and Cody Smith led the way as the duo each won two individual events. Buckley earned top honors in the high jump, clearing 5-10, and the long jump with a leap of 18-02. The junior also placed second in the 110 hurdles with a time of 18.94. Smith flexed his muscle in the distance races where he claimed top honors in the 3200 (11:00.72), 1600 (5:14.15) and placed third in the 800 with a time of 2:20.17. 

Zach Kinyon finished second behind Smith in the 3200 with a time of 11:17.03 and finished fourth in the 1600 with a time of 5:23.9. Kinyon also qualified for Divisionals with a fifth place finish in the high jump, clearing 5-02. 

Dakota Stock and Renny Turner also qualified for the Divisional Meet with a pair of fifth place finishes. Stock placed fifth in the shot put with a toss of 38-0.5 and Turner placed fifth in the discus with a distance of 99-03. 

Laura Meyer was the lone member of the girls’ team to qualify for Divisionals as she placed sixth in the discus with a personal best 69-01. 

Non-placing marks from the District Meet included: Smith, 300 hurdles 53.52; Turner, shot put 33-09.25; Dylan Postma, shot put 33-04.5; Morgan Manthey, shot put 27-04.75, discus 64-05, javelin 70-10; Kinyon, javelin 109-4; Zak Jarvis, triple jump 31-05; Mackenzie Wilson, discus 59-03, long jump 12-05; Maria Becker, discus 51-03, javelin 74-06; Meyer, javelin 67-05. 

Events will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the Divisional Meet Thursday.
