Shelby’s Bailey Johnson slashes to the hoop past Conrad’s Kadie Baney during District 1B  basketball action Friday night in Shelby.

The Shelby Lady Coyotes soundly defeated Conrad, 63-48, and Rocky Boy 60-33, last weekend.

Friday the Coyotes jumped out to an eight-point lead at the end of the first quarter, and doubled it at the half to lead the Cowgirls by 16. The third quarter saw Shelby outscore Conrad 14-7.  Shelby’s lead grew in the fourth before Conrad outscored the reserves. 

Shelby was led by the hot shooting of Kendall Anderson who had 19 on the night. Also scoring for Shelby were Bailey Johnson 11, Maddison Underdal 10, Brielle Aklestad nine, Brogan McAllister eight, Brook Luly and Jori Clary three each. 

Shelby’s defense keyed their offense, with 19 steals. Shelby also had 16 assists to only 14 turnovers. The Coyotes also dominated the boards with 13 offensive and 15 defensive rebounds. 

Saturday the Coyotes traveled to Rocky Boy and jumped out to an early 16-7 lead, behind seven of Underdal’s 23 points on the night. The second and third quarters were evenly fought, but Shelby maintained their nine-point lead. 

Shelby opened up the offense and clamped down with defense in the fourth, outscoring Rocky Boy 21-3. 

Shelby shot 9-for-10 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter to seal the win. 

Scoring for Shelby were Underdal with 23, Johnson 15, Luly 12, Anderson six, Aklestad and Rachel Hould with two each.

Coach Mac McDermott commented, “The coaching staff was pleased with the energy in defense this past weekend. The coaches felt the offensive sets were better as well. They believe good defense helps get the offense moving.”

Shelby has a short week. They played Browning on Tuesday and will host Fairfield Friday at 6 p.m.
