The Shelby Coyotes had a busy week on the track to close out the regular season, competing in three meets. In their final preparations for the District 1B Meet this weekend the Coyotes competed in the Cascade Top 8 Meet, the GFH Freshman Invitational and the Archie Roe Meet in Kalispell. Several local athletes set personal records on the weekend and are continuing to improve as they head into the post season meets.
Rhett Reynolds took top honors in the high jump at the Cascade Top 8 Meet as he cleared 6-0 to lead the Coyotes. Shaun Salveson set a pair of personal records in the meet, finishing second in the 400 with a time of 53.11 and sixth in the 800 with a time of 2:13.33. Tanner Tustian had a personal best time of 5:07.29 in the 1600 while Damon Irvin finished eighth with a PR of 5:12.25. The Coyotes’ 4x100 relay of Tanner Parsons, Brock Stores, Salveson and Wyatt Brusven finished fifth with a time of 46.92 while Brusven teamed with Logan Leck, Jackson Appley and Garett Hansen to finish sixth in the 4x400 with a time of 3:50.35.
Brook Luly led the girls in the Top 8 Meet with a pair of third place finishes in the long jump (15-05) and the 1600 (6:13.35). Allyson Bleecker set a PR in the 200 and finished fourth with a time of 27.92 while Makayla Haight ran a season’s best time of 15:29.63 in the 3200 to finish fifth. Brielle Aklestad rounded out the Coyote placements with a sixth place finish in the javelin with a toss of 97-01.5.
Salveson took top honors in the 100 with a PR of 11.97 at the GFH Freshman Invite and teamed up with Kolby Lohr, Reynolds and Tanner Tustian in the 4x400 relay to place third and he also ran a leg on the 4x100 relay with Cameron Brusven, Taylor Parsons and Reynolds to finish sixth.
Brusven placed second in the javelin with a personal record of 139-10 and also placed third in both the long (18-01) and triple (36-10) jumps to go with a fourth place finish in the discus with a toss of 98-08. Parsons finished third in the high jump, clearing 5-02 and fifth in the long jump with a PR of 17-08.75. Tustian finished fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 33-03.5 and sixth in the pole vault with a personal record of 9-0. Reynolds rounded out the placements with a sixth place finish, and PR, in the 400 with a time of 58.07.
Luly led the Lady Coyotes at the Archie Roe as she won the JV triple jump with a personal record of 31-11.25 and the junior also ran a leg on the third place 4x400 relay along with Aklestad, Brogan McAllister and Bleecker. McAllister had a season’s best leap of 29-04.25 to place third in the JV triple jump. Haight ran a 15:30.41 in the 3200 to finish sixth in the JV division.
Reynolds was the only Coyote to place in the varsity division at the Archie Roe as he finished third in the high jump, clearing 6-0. Taylor Parsons finished second in the JV high jump with a personal record of 5-06. Cameron Brusven took third in the JV triple jump with a leap of 37-09.5 and also placed second in the freshman discus with a toss of 93-09 and fourth in the freshman javelin with a 129-07. Mark Clark took third in the JV discus with a PR of 107-10.5 and sixth in the shot put with a 35-01. Leck placed fourth in the JV 200 with a PR of 25.07 while Eduardo Rojo Vizuete also set a PR and finished sixth with a 25.42. Hansen placed third with a PR in the freshman discus with a throw of 86-10 while Tanner Watson set a PR in the freshman 1600 with a 5:11.69. Damon Irvin set a PR in the JV 400 with a 59.75 and also placed sixth in the freshman 1600 with a 5:16.71. Lohr placed fifth in the JV 300 hurdles with a time of 54.62 and Tustian rounded out the individual placements with a 9-0 clearance in the pole vault to place sixth.
The District 1B Meet begins Saturday morning at 9:30 at Memorial Stadium in Great Falls.
