Shelby Heritage Center residents, from left, Myra Schilling, Bev Gage and Veanne Hawbaker couldn’t be more pleased with the generosity shown during the MMC Auxiliary Christmas Rummage Sale recently. All proceeds from the sale went towards the Heritage Center residents’ activity fund.

With the Christmas season winding down and everyone finishing up their shopping lists, we want to express our gratitude to our incredible community. The current pandemic situation has made fundraising and events difficult for many organizations, and yet we have seen our communities contribute in significant ways.

The Auxiliary Christmas Rummage Sale was a last-minute attempt to raise funds for the Heritage Center residents’ activity funds. We raised over $500 in a simple three-hour rummage sale! Thank you to all those who donated items and baked goods, to the volunteers that helped out, to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church for allowing us to use their space and tables, and a special thank you to all those that shopped! In addition to raising funds for the residents, it also was a service to those in our community who found themselves with little to no Christmas décor or Christmas presents. There were fantastic items donated that we were able to offer at affordable prices, allowing people to make themselves very merry indeed!

The Tree of Lights memorial was also well supported, even with the difference in the event format. If you missed the parade or the reading of the names, it can be viewed on either the Toole County Health Foundation’s Facebook page or Marias Medical Center’s YouTube channel. Over 60 names were submitted and honored on Dec. 9, as they were read aloud to residents at the Heritage Center and placed on the tree. Community members donated over $600 that will benefit healthcare in our community. We treasure the unity that this event brings us as we acknowledge those missing from our tables but not our hearts, and honor those who are serving or have served in our nation’s military. You can still donate in memory of someone and their name will be added to our quarterly newsletter. These can be mailed to PO Box 915, Shelby, MT 59474, Attn: Erin Wanken.

From Marias Medical Center, Marias Medical Center Auxiliary, and Toole County Health Foundation, we wish everyone a Merry Christmas! Thank you for working hard, keeping on and finding new ways to enjoy the holidays and make this Christmas memorable. We look forward to 2021 and the exciting changes it will bring.
