Shelby Community Federal Credit Union recently held a special membership meeting July 9 to vote on merging with 1st Liberty Federal Credit Union. The vote was 279-11 to approve the merger. The merger date is planned for the end of August to open for business Tuesday, Sept. 3.
The merged credit unions will become one under the 1st Liberty FCU name with combined assets of approximately $179 million serving nearly 18,000 members across Montana and in Grand Forks, N.D. 1st Liberty has Montana offices located in the communities of Great Falls, Conrad and Cut Bank and is pleased to be able to add the community of Shelby.
Steve Grooms, President and CEO of 1st Liberty Federal Credit Union, stated, “The new addition will be a good fit for both Shelby Community FCU members as well as for 1st Liberty FCU. We look forward to providing the new members with a new local 24 hour ATM, electronic banking options, additional loan and deposit opportunities as well as a nationwide network of shared branches and fee free ATMs.”
1st Liberty Federal Credit Union was established in June 1955 with the name of Great Falls Air Force Base Federal Credit Union. Over the years, 1st Liberty FCU has merged with a number of other credit unions and has proved to be a sound credit union that offers exceptional value and quality services, not only to its existing membership, but to each new field of membership it has merged with every step of the way.
