Though the holidays are full of rushing and excited anticipation, there are many who feel the loss of a loved one more keenly. This is the eighth year that Toole County Health Foundation has held an annual memorial event before Christmas, the Tree of Lights, to meet this need. This year’s event will take place on Monday, Dec. 9, starting at 6 p.m., in the dining room of the Heritage Center.

The Tree of Lights is a beautiful time to pause and remember those passed, honor those serving in the military and recognize those loved ones still living. Names and donations can be submitted to Erin Wanken at PO Box 915, Shelby, or at the Tree of Lights box at the Heritage Center’s front counter. Any name can be submitted and the names will be read throughout the evening.

Vocal arrangements will be sung by members of Strings ‘n Things in between names being read and placed on the tree. The tree will be set up through Christmas and names can be added following the event as well.

We welcome and encourage all community members to attend the event and pause to remember and recognize the significance of the lives around us.
