Unfortunately, the community of Shelby was unable to celebrate Arbor Day with school kids, church groups, organizations, businesses and individuals celebrating the day by improving our neighborhoods, brightening city parks, cleaning roadways and fostering care and concern for our community. Last year, over 400 kids, adults and families took part in cleanup activities throughout the community.

The City hopes everyone might step forward and participate in community cleanup activities Thursday, May 28, and Friday, May 29..  We are hoping clubs, civic organizations, church groups and individuals might select a city park, sports field area, fence line, roadway or other area of the community that needs cleaning.

Lorette Carter, Community Economic Development Director, will create a sign-up list for all area organizations to designate an area they would like to clean.  Please call her at 424-8799 or e-mail shbcdc@3rivers.net as soon as possible.

As part of Arbor Day activities, the City is also offering a one-day pick up of trees purchased by residents in Shelby. City staff will take the covered trailer to Great Falls on Wednesday, May 27, to deliver any purchased trees residents have bought but cannot transport to Shelby. Please call Lorette Carter by May 25 to let her know where staff can pick up your purchased tree.

The City hopes everyone celebrates spring in a personal way by cleaning their yards, neighborhoods and public areas and possibly planting a tree or purchasing a tree for their church, school or public area. These acts of kindness are true commitments to stewardship within our community.

Together we can continue to make Shelby a great place to live, work and raise our families.
