Cosmetologist Mikayla Henke pays attention to detail as she works on Magdalena Horn’s manicure in her new salon, Twisted Twine Salon and Spa located in the alley above Northtown Drug.

The last time you were reading about local cosmetologist Mikayla Henke she had just received her certification in massage therapy. Well, Henke didn’t stop there! She has continued to grow and expand upon her business and is now the proud owner of her own salon, Twisted Twine Salon and Spa. For the past nine years Henke has been renting or leasing space in various locations around Shelby but on July 6 she officially opened in her own space, located at 100 Main Street, Suite 1A, above Northtown Drug in Shelby.

“We started remodeling in June and officially opened on July 6,” smiled Henke. “Adam Mellinger, my boyfriend, Bryan Barker, and my dad, Curt Henke, did an amazing job helping me get the space ready for business.”

Henke’s dream of her own salon didn’t come without a lot of hard work. The space she moved into provided plenty of room, but needed a few upgrades and additions. New flooring throughout, paint, building and enclosing a space to create the massage room and trim work throughout kept her, her dad, boyfriend and Mellinger busy throughout the month of June as they worked on it daily.

“We started in June and we were here every day working on it,” said Henke. “My parents and Bryan have been my biggest supporters through all of this.”
