Marie Blanche Olson Mitch

Marie Blanche Olson Mitch passed away on Feb. 5, 2023, at the Glacier Care Center in Cut Bank. She was 90 years old and had lived her entire life in Montana.

Marie was born to Ellis Lambert “Bub” and Leone Thompson Olson on Aug. 30, 1932, in Conrad. Her earliest memories were of living in Babb, where her parents owned and operated cabins, a store and cafe, and a gas station for the tourists who came to Glacier Park. With the start of World War II, the family moved to Browning, where Marie attended school and began playing the piano. She had fond memories of attending school in Hardin and Fairfield. In May of 1950, she graduated from Cut Bank High School.

On Oct. 13, 1956, Marie Blanche Olson married William Michael “Bill” Mitch in Cut Bank. They had one child, Patricia Lynne. Two years after their marriage, the family moved to Bozeman for a new job opportunity for Bill. In 1968, they moved back to Cut Bank, where Bill and Marie remained for the rest of their lives. Bill passed away on Aug. 23, 2015.

From the time Marie graduated from high school, she enjoyed working. Through the years, she worked at a title company, a Montana State University research lab, the Cut Bank Pioneer Press, and the City of Cut Bank. Then, in September 1987, she was appointed by the Cut Bank City Council to the City Clerk and Treasurer position. She kept that job until her retirement 20 years later.

Marie enjoyed activities and volunteering with many organizations. The Cut Bank Area Chamber of Commerce, the DARE program, being a Glacier County Election Judge, and the Glacier Penguins RV Club were some that kept her busy. Marie was also an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed quilting and the company of her quilting friends. Above all, Marie loved to play the piano and organ. Many remember her playing at church and numerous funerals in the area. She played the piano at the Glacier Care Center until a very short time ago.

Survivors include her daughter, Patty (Chris) McIntyre; three grandchildren, Laura McIntyre, Mitch McIntyre, and Tony (Courtney) McIntyre; three great-grandchildren, Erik Michael, Ryan Christopher, and Hanna Lynne, along with many nieces and nephews whom Marie loved.

Services held Saturday, Feb. 11, at Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Church.
