Stanley Spotted Wolfe Sr., 74, passed away at IHS on Aug. 25, 2019. A wake was held at Glacier Homes and a funeral mass was held at Little Flower Parish on Saturday, Aug. 31.
A member of the Blackfeet Tribe, he was born Aug. 31, 1944 in Browning to Joe Running Carne and Petronella Spotted Wolfe. He was raised by his grand-mother, Maggie Aimsback Spotted Wolfe. In the K- 8th grades, Stanley was educated by his Aunt Minnie Spotted Wolfe. He graduated from Browning High School in 1960 and attended Northern Montana College, Haskell Jr. College and then the University of New Mexico.
He married Joanne Racine but they later divorced. In June 1971 he met his partner and best friend for life, Anita Chee.
Stan worked throughout his life at various positions – Social Security office in San Francisco, Calif.; The Flood Program – 1963; construction jobs in Kansas, Albuquerque Indian School, N,M.; New Careers Program, Billings; BIA Social Services, Browning; and Blackfeet Social Services in Browning retiring in 2001.
Stan loved to watch basketball and his favorite players were Stan Jr., grand-son Andrew Spotted Wolfe; State Class A Champion and Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors. Stan was proud of his sobriety which began on July 24, 1979.
He was preceded in death by his parents Joe Running Crane and Petronella Spotted Wolfe; grandmother Maggie Aimsback Spotted Wolfe (who raised him); brother Garrett Running Crane; sisters Althea Tailfeathers and Darlene Spotted Bear.
Survivors include his life partner Anita Spotted Wolfe; son, Stan Jr.; daughters Michelle, Patricia, Cheryl, and Delores Lynn; grandchildren Andrew, and Ashley; great-grandchildren Courtney, Rachel, Ashdon, Angelina, Kaidais and Kendrick; siblings Glenn Running Crane, Oral Running Crane, Delma Vielle, Joanne Running Crane, and Ramona (Peanuts) Running Crane as well as many friends.
