Alvin Crawford

Alvin (Willie) William Crawford, 62, of Heart Butte, passed away at home on Monday, March 11, 2019.

A wake was held Sunday, March 17, at the Brown Building in Heart Butte. Rosary was recited Tuesday, March 19. Mass will be held Wednesday, March 20, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church at 2 p.m. Arrangements and cremation were by Foster Funeral Home.

Willie was the second of six children born to Robert and Naomi Crawford of Heart Butte on June 15, 1956 in Browning. He began his grade school education in Heart Butte and graduated from Valier High School. He then attended the University of Montana College of Technology, graduating in 1981 with an Associate’s Degree in Diesel/Auto technology.  He later attended Blackfeet Community College, obtaining an Associate’s Degree in Construction Technology, Carpenter Journeyman’s License and Instructor Certificate. He also earned a Renewable Energy Teaching Certificate from UC Berkley, SOCAT Certificate from Ferris State University and a Finance and Accounting Certificate from Rockhurst University.

Willie began his employment with Chief Mountain Hot Shots, where he was Crew Boss for five years. He worked at Blackfeet Community College as a Building Trades Instructor for 18 years and the Heart Butte School District as a Transportation Supervisor for three years.

Willie enjoyed many hobbies and interests including wood carving, metal detecting, fly fishing, hunting, Blackfeet History, gold panning and was an avid collector of fossils and rocks. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren and playing bingo.

Willie is survived by his wife Jane Crawford; his daughters Melissa (Ted) Colbeth of Gilman, Vermont; Jamie (Eric) Woldstad of Valier, Kelly Crawford of Bozeman, and Jessica Crawford of Missoula; 10 grandchildren and one great grandson; mother Naomi Crawford; aunt, Shirley Birch; brothers Tom (Floy) Crawford, Dusty (Ginny) Crawford, Marvin(Charlene) Crawford, Kevin Crawford and Milton Rutherford; and sister, Roberta Crawford; and many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Willie is preceded in death by his father Robert Rice Crawford, Uncle Joseph Mice Crawford, nephew Allen Crawford and great niece Tonya Weatherwax.
