Mae Running Wolf Upham passed away Saturday, March 21, at the Blackfeet Care Center, Browning, Mont. of natural causes.
Mae was born Nov. 21, 1927, to George Running Wolf Sr. and Annie Rose Running Wolf. She was raised in Blacktail and Heart Butte. After graduating from Browning, Mae went on Relocation to Chicago, Ill., where she studied clerical work, which ended up being her life long career. Mae worked at the Air Force Base in Great Falls and at the BIA (old Barracks) in Browning. Mae retired from Browning IHS after 25 years of service as a medical records clerk. Mae then came out of retirement to work for the Tribal Food Stamp Office and Blackfeet Tribal Enrollment until she retired a second time, after working for the Blackfeet Tribe for 20-plus years.
Mae was a very precise and a dedicated employee at every position she was employed. Mae was very independent, strong willed and hard working; even at home she was always active, cleaning and doing things around her house. Mae enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, going on rides and picnics, watching TV and shopping. Mom loved her pop, chocolates and all junk food, and driving to Great Falls in her earlier years and visiting her sister Marie and family in Park Dale.
Mae loved to drive her car until she wasn’t able to drive any longer - she didn’t learn to drive a car until she was in her 40s when her husband George taught her.
Mae married George J. Upham Sr. in Cardston, Alberta, who preceded her in death in 1986. Mom will now be reunited with the love of her life, George and all of her family.
She has seven brothers: Melvin Running Wolf Sr., Aloysius (Big Boy) Running Wolf, Louie Running Wolf, Fred (Max) Running Wolf, George (Ooch) Running Wolf Jr. and Leonard Running Wolf (all deceased); one sur-viving brother Mark (Dave) Running Wolf; four sisters: Hazel Running Wolf Graham, Marie Running Wolf Evans, Sharon Running Wolf Farve and Donna (Susie) Running Wolf (all deceased).
Mae is survived by her daughter, Patricia (Delbert) Trombley Sr.; sons Ron Comby of Salem, Ore, Daryle (Crystal) Running Wolf of Sequim, Wash, and Bird (Sharon) Running Wolf Sr. of Billings; grandchildren Brandan Trombley Sr., Delbert Trombley Jr., Tammi Trombley, Gayle Jr. and Tara Running Wolf, Nic Running Wolf and Adam Running Crane; and great-grandchildren Jada, Dominique, George, Brenden Trombley, Teslin Trombley, Keke Tenas, Olivia Whippert, Little Angel, Peytin Rayn, James Jr., Luke, Paisley Seymour and Micah Running Crane
