Roy Lee Old Person Jr. was born Feb. 16, 1974, in Browning and departed from us on Monday, April 20, 2020.
He was raised in OhKay Owingeh, N. M. He graduated from the University of New Mexico with his bachelor’s and Columbia University with his master’s. He then went to work as a social worker in New York City. He also got to run in the New York City Marathon.
He then moved to Boston where he became a professor at Wheelock College. After Boston he moved back to New Mexico where he had several jobs throughout the Pueblos.
He then decided to pursue his career in Seattle, Wash., and get his PhD in social work.
After Seattle he moved to Browning with lots of visits to OhKay Owingeh. He also had several jobs while in Browning, working for the Blackfeet Tribe.
He had many, many friends and family who loved and treasured him dearly. He will be forever missed. He was the best son, brother, uncle, nephew and friend anyone could have.
If you knew him, consider yourself the luckiest person. God picked the perfect angel for all of us to have watch over us.
Roy’s services were held on Friday, April 24, at Greasewood in Starr School. His pallbearers were Joe Trujillo, Mark and Preston Tatsey. Honorary pallbearers were Marvin Trujillo Jr., Timmy Blackweasel, Chris Boy, Melvin Whiteman, Clinton Blackweasel, Seeps Blackweasel, Josh Blackweasel, Quennell Matt, Vance Homegun, Dale Tatsey Jr., Jayden Trujillo, Landon Trujillo, John Paul Moutoya, Karrilyn Monroe, Derek Chee, and all his friends and family.
