John Gregory Nesbo

John Gregory Nesbo, 92, passed away on Nov. 23, 2022, due to complications of dementia. A celebration of his life will be planned in the future.

He was born on May 15, 1930, and adopted by Gunwald and Katherine Nesbo when he was three-months-old. John was raised on the family farm north of Shelby and graduated from Shelby High School in 1949. He joined the Navy and served two years in the local Marine Reserve. He was honorably discharged from both.

He returned to the family farm where he spent many years. He served two terms as County Commissioner, from 1973-1985. In 1973 he became active with mental health, serving locally, state and nationally. He received an outstanding Governing Board Award from Montana Mental Health Association. In 1983 John received a Regional VIII (six states) Outstanding and Service Mental Health Award. This is two of the many awards that John has received.

John enjoyed spending time with his family, taking trips, supporting his family and their goals. He had a passion for working on the farm, fixing and building things.

He is survived by his wife Dolores (Dee) and sons, Glenn (Janet), Jerry (Gloria), Shawn; and daughters, Jane, Jean (Andy), Shirley and Sheila (Rod); 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

John was proceeded in death by his parents, Gunwald and Katherine, and his son, Gregory. 

John will be dearly missed by family and friends. May he rest in peace.
