Russell “Rusty” Dermont Garrett, 65, died in Tucson, Ariz., on Tuesday, April 7, 2020. A memorial was held on Thursday, April 9, with funeral services at Funeraria del Angel in Tucson.
Born Jan. 5, 1955, in Ashland, Missouri, to Dermont and Claudine Garrett, his sibling was Joan Garrett Burmont (Tom), and he was married to Mary Cobell Garrett on March 21, 2003, in Maui, Hawaii.
He worked as a commercial real estate investor with his wife Mary and partner Bob Gigino, and was involved in the Arizona Bowl, Boys and Girls Club, INFR, El Rio Health Center, Pima Community College Nursing Program, University of Arizona Academic Learning Center, Endowment Fund for the University of Arizona, De La Salle Blackfeet School, Pikuni Youth Rodeo, University of Nevada Rodeo Club, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Awards, and was in the National Senior Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame with wife Mary.
His hobbies included spending time with family, boating, collecting cars and athletic memorabilia, rodeo, horseback riding, hunting, lapidary, traveling with his wife Mary and attending events.
He is survived by his spouse, Mary L. Garrett, Tucson and Browning; stepchildren Monti Pavatea Gilham (Graig), Marty Pavatea and Mona Longbrake (Delbert); grandchildren Haley Pavatea-Brown, Andrew Brown, Gavin and Grady Gilham, Ann’D Butcher; and great grandson Sage Russell Omeasoo; Jesse Carrilo and many extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dermont and Claudine Garrett; grandsons Jake and KC Longbrake.
Russell “Rusty” Garrett will be missed immensely. Please remember him as the kind, generous, whole-hearted person he was.
