Clement Dale Blackweasel, 61, was born to Thomas Blackweasel and Margaret (Yellow Thunder) Blackweasel on June 1, 1959, in Browning, Mont. He passed away on Jan. 18, 2021 in Rapid City, S.D.
Clement lived an adventurous life in many places like Browning; Wounded Knee, S.D.; Kalispell; Flandreau, S.D.; Lawrence, Kan.; Durham; Los Angeles, Calif.; and Rapid City, S.D.
He went to school in Manderson, S.D.; Kalispell; Flandreau Indian School, Flandreau, S.D.; Haskell Indian Junior College, Lawrence, Kan.; United Tribes, Bismarck, N.D.; and Oglala Community College, Rapid City, S.D.
Clement married Colleen Vielle in Los Angeles, Calif., Dec. 30, 1989. They had three children, Thomas (Angel) Blackweasel, Theodore Blackweasel and Lillian Blackweasel.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army and was very proud of being a Ranger in the 82nd Airborne Division. He received his training in Ft. Benning, Ga. While serving as a Ranger, he was in Germany and Panama. He had an honorable discharge.
Clement was employed in various jobs – oilfield construction, x-ray technician, truck driver, assisting DAV/VFW, and his last job was at LoveInk, Rapid City, S.D. One fall day in 1989 Clement secured a job in Los Angeles and as he was to the establishment he was to report there was an earthquake. When he came to the building he was to report to, to his surprise all there was a building of only bricks piled high. Well, time to look for other employment.
Clement liked to read western and military books, do crossword puzzles and listen to country and western music. He liked to do leatherwork and did not complete his last belt buckles he was working on. He did complete two beaded pair of earrings.
Clement is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Blackweasel and Margaret Blackweasel; grandparents James Blackweasel and Rose Heavy Runner; great-grandparents Blackweasel (formerly known as Mountain Chief) and Sparks Blackweasel, Theodore and Theresa Means; siblings Barbara Adams, Ramona Blackweasel, Anita Rose Blackweasel, Robert Means, Leonard Means, Clayton Graham and Marvin Blackweasel who passed away six days later on Jan. 24.
He is survived by his wife, Colleen Blackweasel; sons Thomas Blackweasel and Theodore Blackweasel; daughter Lillian Blackweasel, Rapid City, S.D.; brother Michael (Norma) Graham, Wounded Knee, S.D.; sisters Theodora (Kenny) Weatherwax, Browning, and JoAnn (Vern) Grinnell, Box Elder, S.D.
Clement has numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, aunts, uncles, stepmother Doreen Blackweasel, step sisters Martha Marceau and Margie Driver, and step brother Dale Vielle.
The wake and rosaries were held at Behrens-Wilson Funeral Home on Jan. 24. Funeral services were held at Behrens-Wilson on Jan. 25. Burial with military honors was held at Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, S.D., on Jan. 25.
Thanks to all the individuals who sent cards, flowers, calls, gave money to assist with our travel, motel rooms and more assistance for our brother Marvin. There are so many great family, friends and thoughtful people who were a great support. Love and prayers to all, and be safe.
