On Thursday, Aug. 27, 2020, Harley Schnee, loving husband and father of two, passed away at age 91 in Sacramento, Calif. A memorial service will be planned for a later date when it is safe to travel and gather to remember Harley’s life.
Harley Luther Schnee was born on May 31, 1929, in Cardston, Alberta to James Bailey and Marie Schnee. Their ranch was near the Canadian border and because of a snow storm closing roads into Cut Bank he was born in Canada.
After graduating from Columbia Falls High School he worked in the oil fields and began his higher education to become an electrician. He gained his American citizenship and was going through the process to join the Air Force when he was drafted to serve the Army during the Korean War. After serving his country he returned home to join his father on the family farm.
Over the next 40 plus years Harley continued to pour his heart and soul into farming north of Cut Bank. On March 2, 1968 he married Shirley Painter. They raised a daughter, Donna, and a son, Doug. In 2001, he and his wife relocated to Sacramento, Calif., to be near their children.
Harley’s favorite hobbies were snowmobiling in the winter and golfing in the summer. He was an inventor, woodworker, mechanic and storyteller.
Harley was preceded in death by his parents, brother J.B., and three sisters, Shirley, Idabelle and Betty Loyette.
He is survived by his wife Shirley, his sister Gloria Siebrecht (Odell), two children and six grandsons–Donna and Jeff Larson, Jacob, Joshua, Joseph and Jonathan; and Doug and Samantha Schnee, Ryan and Evan.
Memorials may be made to the Veterans Memorial Park, P.O. Box 24, Cut Bank, MT 59427.
