Leonard Roark, 93, passed away on Nov. 16, 2020, at Highgate Senior Living in Great Falls, where he had resided since July. Cremation has taken place and a service will be planned at a later date when we can gather to share stories.
Leonard was born to Lawrence and Mary (Lewis) Roark on Oct. 16, 1927, in Big Sandy, Mont. He married Betty Terry on June 29, 1946, and they moved from Big Sandy to Sunburst in 1953, where they made their home for the next 59 years.
In 2012, when they felt traveling to Arizona for the winters was becoming too difficult, they moved to Meridian, Idaho, for the milder climate.
Over the years, Leonard worked for the Choteau County Road Department, Hardrock Oil Company, Cenex Cooperative, the Sunburst Gas Company, the Sunburst School District, the Sunburst Cemetery and for himself, doing mechanical repairs and backhoe work. Everyone that knew him was aware of his knowledge of most things mechanical and his willingness to help when he could.
Leonard is survived by his six children, Fay (Ken) Tomayer, of Galata, Terry (Paul) Walston, of Meridian, Idaho, Jack (Susan) Roark, of Kalispell, Frank (Betsy) Roark, of Boca Raton, Fla., DeeAnn (Wayne) Middlestead of Helena, and Chuck (Shanee) Roark of Great Falls. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and one favored first cousin, Ruth Hafner, of Oro Valley, Ariz.
