Ralph Davis, the convicted killer of former Mt. Pleasant Mayor Edd King, died in his cell Friday afternoon at the Iowa State Penitentary in Fort Madison.
Davis, 81, is believed to have died from complications of cancer, which he has suffered from for several years, according to media spokesman Ron Welder of the Fort Madison correctional facility.
Davis has been incarcerated in the Fort Madison facility since 1987. He was convicted of murder in the death of King, whom he shot during a City Council meeting on Dec. 10, 1986. Also shot in the incident were Ron Dupree and Joann Sankey. They survived the shooting.
Funeral arrangements were unknown at press time. Welder said he could not release information about funeral arrangements and that the family had taken charge of the matter.
