Justin Burd, left, and Vandree Old Person, right, were the top runners for Browning at the State Cross Country Championships Saturday at Eagle Falls Golf Course in Great Falls. Running conditions were not quite as nice as shown in these photos taken during the season’s first meet Sept. 6 in Cut Bank. Runners battled snow on the course and fridged temperatures on Saturday.

“It was snowy,” Coach Steve LaForge said of the Montana Class A Cross County meet held in Great Falls on Saturday, Oct. 26. “There was about two inches on the ground. We didn’t do as well as we would have liked to, but they all did really well considering the conditions.”

The meet pitted 24 teams against each other, with the Browning boys taking 13th in team scoring while the girls placed 15th. Justin Burd was the top runner among the Browning boys, coming in 56th at 18:07, while Vandree Old Person was tops for the girls, coming in 36th place at 21:21.

Coach LaForge praised his seniors for the leadership they provided this season, including Justin Burd, Lane Longtimesleeping, Chris Reevis, Vandree Old Person and Kelsey Mad Plume.

“The future looks good,” LaForge said of next season’s prospects, noting many freshmen, sophomores and juniors who show promise in the years to come.

Results for the Browning runners follows.
