The Heart Butte Jr. High Lady Warriors seventh grade team began their season on Sept. 3 in Sunburst. Although they played hard, the Lady Warriors lost to the Wildcats by a score of 9-38.
The Lady Warriors continued their season the next day on their home court against the Valier Panthers. It was a thrilling game with the score tied into the final countdown. Kyleigh Tail Feathers came through for her team in the final seconds by downing an awesome jump shot. With the help of her teammates, especially Courtney Rutherford's amazing defense, the Lady Warriors survived with a victory.
In the next game, Heart Butte hosted Browning's Lady Indians. The Warriors put up a good fight, but the Lady Indians proved too much. The final score was 8-52.
On Sept. 9, The Lady Warriors played the De La Salle Shooting Stars, also from Browning. Led by the rebounding of Frances Boy, the offense of Aariana Horn and Tayleigh Calf Boss Ribs, the stifling defense of Rita Williamson and an all-around team effort by everyone, the Lady Warriors defeated De La Salle by a final score of 32-20.
The eighth grade Lady Warriors kicked off this year's season with a bang. They are currently undefeated, having beaten the Sunburst Refiners, the Valier Panthers, the Browning Indians and most recently, the De La Salle Shooting Stars.
On Sept. 3, the Lady Warriors went to the Refiners' backyard and crushed them severely by a final score of 56 to 6. The scoring was led by Krystee Tailfeathers who delivered 21 points in the victory.
The next day, the Valier Panthers came to the battlegrounds of Heart Butte only to suffer a disappointing loss. Starla Calf Robe helped secure the victory with her unbeatable defense.
On Sept. 8, the Lady Indians of Browning came to Heart Butte and did their best to spoil the undefeated season. They failed. It was a very close game, right down to the wire, but the Lady Warriors were too much. Krystee Tailfeathers, demonstrating her ability under pressure to lead a young team, made a sweet move and cut to the hole, sinking an incredible game-winning left-handed layup.
On the very next day, the De La Salle Shooting Stars tried to do what hasn't been done in the regular season since 2007. However, they too fell to the seemingly unstoppable power of the Lady Warriors. Although trailing by eight points at halftime, Heart Butte came out in the second half with guns a-blazing. Tayler Calf Boss Ribs took control when she started sinking field goals from all over the court. Mikara Marceau, an absolute terror on defense, stealing the ball left and right, also came though in the final minutes, going four for four at the free-throw line. It was a thrilling victory.
