“They’re looking pretty good,” Coach Ray Augare said of the Lady Indians 2019-20 basketball team. “They’re around half and half so we’re getting the new kids caught up. We’re definitely quicker, and we’re just as tall with Tamika Guardipee coming back.”
Coach Augare notes Guardipee is “not back 100 percent” from her serious knee injury last year, but said the rest of the team should be able to work with her.
“The girls are working hard,” he said. “Most of them played through the summer so now we’ve got the new kids playing with the veterans. We have three or four more practices and then we’ll see where we are.”
This year’s seniors include Tamika Guardipee, Hailey Racine, Dulci Skunkcap, Kelsey Mad Plume, Payton Crossguns, Chalissa Kipp, Walker Running Crane and Tatum Running Crane. They are joined by juniors Alena Burdeau and Arena Matt, sophomore Skyla Wells and freshman Mecca Bullchild.
This week, the Lady Indians open at Frenchtown where they will play a pair of games, one each on Friday, Dec. 6, and Saturday, Dec. 7. They will play the host team on Friday at 6 p.m. and Hamilton on Saturday at 2 p.m.
They’ll host their first home games against Polson on Saturday, Dec. 14. The C Squad and the JVs will play at Browning Elementary, with the former slated for 11 a.m. and the latter at 12:30 p.m. The varsity plays at Browning High School at 2 p.m.
