Browning Schools Clerk Crystal Tailfeathers reports there are three, three-year positions opening on the Board of Trustees this year. They are currently held by Donna Yellow Owl, Wendy Bremner and Rae Armstrong.

A resolution was sent to the current Board on Feb. 9, she said, allowing candidates to begin filing. The deadline for filing is 4 p.m., Thursday, March 25.

This year, Tailfeathers said the District is aiming at another mail-in ballot election. “We did it last year and it worked very well,” she said.

If needed, this year’s school election is scheduled for Tuesday, May 4. Tailfeathers explained if only three candidates file for the open seats – either as declared or write-in candidates – they will be elected by acclamation, and no trustee election will be held.

All candidates for school board must meet the following qualifications:

•18 years of age or older

•Citizen of the United States and a registered voter.

•Resident of Montana, Glacier County and lived within the boundaries of School District No. 9 for at least 30 days

To file for election to the school board, candidates must pick up a nomination petition from the Browning Administration Building, across the street from Napi Elementary.

Candidates no longer need to have the petition signed by five voters who reside within the school district boundaries.
