At the close of filing on Friday, April 24, a total of 17 candidates had filed as primary office seekers in the 2020 Blackfeet Tribal Business Council election. Four seats are being contested, with candidates following coronavirus guidelines and arriving in vehicles outside the Roland Kennerly Building and allowing election officials to do the running back and forth.
Incumbent Timothy “Kink” Davis filed for reelection to Browning District Position #1 where he is being challenged by Patrick “Pat” Schildt, Patricia Jean “Jaybird” Calflooking, Joseph John “Joe” McKay, Joseph Allen Kipp and Timothy James Sure Chief. Incumbent Terry J. Tatsey filed for reelection to Heart Butte District Position #5 where only Virgil Clyde Last Star is currently challenging.
Seville District Position #7 has only challengers so far having filed, including Leon Vielle, James “Jimmy” St. Goddard, Craig Lee Falcon and Frederick “Fred” Guardipee.
Finally, incumbent Roland Kennerly Jr. has filed for reelection to Old Agency District Position #9. He is being challenged by Marvin Richard Weatherwax Jr., Richard Charles Humphrey Rutherford, Robert Dale “Bobby” Dubray and Ronald “Smiley” Kittson.
According to Blackfeet Public Information Officer James McNeely, plans for holding the primary election are being discussed on how to safely hold in-person voting while following coronavirus guidelines.
