Browning’s water supply was cut off last week when the water mains near the old Blackfeet Tribal Court broke. “It was an old pipe that was slowly falling apart,” said Josh Bechel, water operator for the Two Medicine Water Company. “Locating it was the hard part, coming up into a swampy area.”
Bechel reports having received a call about the break Saturday evening, Oct. 28. The water was shut off for about eight hours on Sunday, and another six on Monday morning, as his crew replaced the broken sections with PVC pipe. Schools and Head Start programs were canceled on Monday.
“They’re old pipes that leak frequently,” Bechel said. “Those pipes should have been replaced years ago. I hope we don’t have another break, but the pipes are so old and we need funding to fix them, and that’s a lot of money.”
