The Remember the Child Conference had another planning meeting, which was held on Feb. 11 at Blackfeet Housing. The Remember the Child Conference is still slated for April 6-9. The Conference starts all three days at 8 a.m. each morning through 7 p.m. in the evening.

As of now the following programs are working together to make this conference a super success - Blackfeet Family Services/Stop Meth Program, CHRs, Positive Choices/DVPI, Blackfeet Housing, Honor Your Life, Blackfeet Tobacco Privation Program, Rocky Mountain Tribal Wellness Initiative, Blackfeet Law Enforcement, Blackfeet Community College and Blackfeet Fighting Bad Medicine, along with community volunteers.

On Sunday, April 6, from noon till 3 p.m. there will be early registration at Blackfeet Community College. Our thought is to have stick game during those hours. We are asking those who want to participate to bring items that they want to bet and hand drum to sing.

The first morning, Monday, April 7, at 8 a.m. kicks off the Remember the Child Conference, and we are asking people to march with us in prayer and song (singers and drummers, please attend) honoring youth. The march will start at the four-way stop between Blackfeet Social Services and Fist Full of Dollars. We will then go to Blackfeet Community College where breakfast will be served.

Here are a few evening activities to look forward to.

On Monday, April 7, from 5:15 – 7 p.m. there will be a banquet with a Walter Lamar and Associates presentation on substance abuse, sponsored by Blackfeet Tobacco Privation, headed by Nadine Little Plume

On Tuesday, April 8, from 3:30 – 7 p.m. there will be a presentation by Stan Agur group from Canada. This group will be doing recovery testimonies accompanied by live music.

On Wednesday, April 9, from 3:45 – 7 p.m. there will be a talent show put on by Blackfeet Housing and Positive Changes DVPI. This talent show will be limited to 50, three-minute slots.

Remember the Child planning meetings are usually at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays at the Blackfeet Housing Conference Room or at the Blackfeet Tribal Conference Room.

So far the committees that are formed include Location, Food, Donation, Speakers, Banquet, Booths, Cultural/Blessing, Door Prize/Gifts, Registration/Name Tags, Talent Show, Clean up and Set up.

We welcome community members and tribal programs to attend the meeting. Also if anyone wants to volunteer (societies), please attend the meetings to sign up.
