The Valier girls basketball team opened the 2021 season with a thrilling 49-47 victory over Geraldine/Highwood. The Panthers trailed by four entering the final period of the game before rallying to start the year 1-0. 

The teams were knotted up at 11-11 after the first quarter but the Panthers were outscored 11-10 in the second stanza and trailed 21-20 at the half. 

Geraldine/Highwood extended their lead to 33-29 entering the fourth quarter before the local cagers exploded for 20 points in the final eight minutes to take the 49-47 victory. 

Erica Ramsey led the way with 17 points on the night followed by Hannah Monroe with 14. Hannah St. Goddard chipped in eight points, Loni Orcutt tallied five, Emma Valdez sank three free throws and Kinley Kovatch rounded out the scoring with three points. 

The Panthers were back in action on Tuesday as they took on Sunburst, results were unavailable at press time. Valier will travel to Simms on Friday and host Augusta on Saturday.
