Freshman pitcher Makenna Burke fires to the plate Saturday against Conrad.

The Cut Bank Lady Wolves diamond dwellers hit the field for their opening games last weekend as they hosted a jamboree to kick things off. The Lady Wolves went 2-1-1 as they defeated Conrad and Browning, fell to Havre and tied with Conrad. Games were limited to a one-hour window during the jamboree.

The opening game with the Conrad Cowgirls ended in a 1-1 tie after four innings of play. Sienna Spotted Bear and Makenna Burke split the pitching duties in the contest, each throwing two innings and striking out four Cowgirl batters each.

Offensively, Spotted Bear, Kenzie Stiner and Bizzy Whitford each recorded a single with Spotted Bear’s hit scoring Stiner in the fourth to force the tie.

In their second game, the Lady Wolves took on Havre and trailed 3-2 after the first inning. Cut Bank scored three runs in the second to go up 5-3. Havre batted first in the third inning, scoring five runs and time ran out before the Lady Wolves could take their turn at the plate as they fell 8-5.

Spotted Bear was in the circle for Cut Bank as she gave up three hits, struck out five Havre batters and walked 12.

Burke recorded a single in and teammate Hannah Monroe smacked a double in the loss.

The Lady Wolves JV dominated Browning in the third game 10-0 with Spotted Bear striking out six batters in three innings.

Cut Bank recorded zero hits in the win but earned 19 walks and stole 27 bases in the rout.

The final game put the Lady Wolves against Conrad for a second time for a JV contest. Burke and Camille Bradley split pitching duties with Burke striking out four in two innings of play and Bradley striking out one Cowgirl.

Madi Weikum, Monroe, Loni Orcutt and Tayleigh Running Fisher each recorded a single in the 2.5 inning game. Cut Bank also recorded 20 stolen bases in the win while drawing 10 walks.

The Lady Wolves will be back in action April 9-10 when they travel to Lewistown for a two-day varsity and junior varsity event.
