Many summer events are jumping back into the swing of things again this year, including Cut Bank’s own Montana Fun Weekend. Get out your pen and mark your calendars for the “fun weekend” scheduled for Friday through Sunday, Aug. 20-22 at the Cut Bank International Airport.
“The basic events are the same as in year’s past,” said one of the organizers, Roy Nollkamper. “We have had a number of calls about whether we would be holding the event again this year and we were excited to say we are back.”
The weekend starts on Friday, Aug. 20 at 8 p.m. with the burnout contest. Gate entry is $3 with a $10 registration fee for those entering the contest. After the burnout, there will be a drive-in, sit-in movie at the main airport hangar. This year’s movie will be “Smokey and the Bandit.”
Saturday, Aug. 21 is the big day of the weekend and starts right away with a drive-in, fly-in breakfast sponsored by the Moose Lodge. Breakfast runs from 7-11 a.m.
The gate fee for Saturday is $5 and the shows for cars, airplanes and cycles, starts at 10 a.m. Do not forget to register for those events starting also at 10 a.m. If you and your car want to participate in the drag races, registration for that event also starts at 10 a.m. At 4 p.m. the 1/8 mile drag races start and run usually until it is too dark to drive. Concessions will also be available during the weekend.
Sunday, Aug. 22 concludes the weekend with another drive-in, fly-in breakfast sponsored again by the Moose Lodge from 7-11 a.m.
The car show at Montana Fun Weekend is a big deal and without a doubt, is the draw for this event. There are new cars, old cars, classic cars, motorcycles, new and old and even a few airplanes that fly in to be part of the show.
Best of show awards are given out for cars, airplanes and motorcycles. All the voting comes from the people who attend the show and cast a ballot for their favorite.
“We encourage new muscle car owners to come and show their cars and then race their cars. We would like to get the younger generation involved in the show and race with the import cars many of them have. They are all welcome,” said Roy. “We are also hoping to get aircrafts of any kind at the show this weekend too. Bring what you got, we always say.”
Roy said this car show weekend has a lot “more to do than any other show” around the area and the state. That is something they have always prided themselves on at Montana Fun Weekend.
