The Cut Bank Lady Wolves dropped a pair of conference games last weekend as they fell to league-leading Fairfield and Conrad in back-to-back games. The Lady Wolves host league foe Rocky Boy this Friday as they look to get back on track before traveling to take on District 2B opponent Harlem on Saturday.
Last Friday against Fairfield the Lady Wolves managed just three points in the first quarter, as they hit just one of seven free throws in the quarter, and the Eagles took an 8-3 lead.
The free throw woes continued in the second stanza as the Lady Wolves went 1-7 from the charity stripe again, but their defense kept them in the game as they trailed just 16-10 at the half. Both teams scored just two points in the third quarter and the Eagles led 18-12 going into the final eight minutes.
Cut Bank trailed 23-19 with just over four minutes left but from there the Lady Wolves went cold and Fairfield’s Kenna Pitcher took over and led Fairfield to the 37-21 victory.
Aryana Black led the offense with six points and the senior also tallied eight rebounds and two blocks. Sadie Pepion followed with four points and four rebounds while Jada Rides at the Door and Sienna Spotted Bear each scored three points.
Rides at the Door also pulled down eight boards in the loss. Hannah Fetters scored two points and grabbed three rebounds while Aliyah Cruz also scored two points. Jackie Waller rounded out the scoring with a free throw.
As a group, the Lady Wolves shot just 3-18 from the free throw line and 9-43 from the floor for 21%.
Saturday against the Conrad Cowgirls Cut Bank took a 10-4 lead after the opening stanza. The Lady Wolves held the Conrad offense in check in the second quarter as well, as Cut Bank pushed their advantage to 19-8 at the half.
Conrad outscored the Lady Wolves in the third quarter 14-8 and cut the Cut Bank lead to 27-22 going into the fourth. The Lady Wolves had a bad defensive stretch in the fourth quarter and the Cowgirls took advantage with a barrage of three point baskets to take a lead that Cut Bank was unable to recover from and the Lady Wolves fell 44-38.
Rides at the Door and Black led the offense with 14 and 10 points, respectively. The senior duo also combined for 14 rebounds and five blocks in the loss. Cruz scored four points, Pepion and Sam Burke each scored three points while Fetters and Waller rounded out the scoring with two points each.
The Lady Wolves connected on 11-of-17 free throws but hit just 13 of 47 shots from the field for 28%.
The Lady Wolves will host Rocky Boy on Friday with a 6:30 p.m. tip off scheduled. On Saturday the local cagers will head to Harlem where action is set to begin at 4:30 p.m.
